This 3 bedroom 3 bathroom home is located in Paradise Cove in the Red Cliff Community of Utila.
Located east of the main part of town, The House of the Rising Sun is far away from the noise of traffic but close enough to ride into the centre of town on a golf cart or scooter in less than ten minutes to run an errand or to enjoy a meal at a restaurant.
This home enjoys the constant sounds of the waves and cooling effects of the Trade Winds as well as spectacular ocean views from the expansive porch which include Roatan, Cayos Cachinos and the beautiful mountains behind La Ceiba on the mainland of Honduras.
Construction was started in early 2014 on this spacious home which has been specifically designed and constructed with materials to withstand the wind and salt conditions of Utila’s Eastern Shore.
The layout is simplistic with a large Great Room encompassing the kitchen, dining room and living room with a bedroom, connecting bathroom and closet on either side of the Great Room.
The house is situated high on Paradise Cove and it is possible to enter the sea in front of the house down a short path from the back door.
The ground floor of the home has the third bedroom and bathroom-perfect for a guest or rental suite.
The Bodega (Garage), a smaller work Bodega, the 18,000 Gallon water cistern and all utilities are also located there.
The home features patios on both the ocean facing and road facing sides of the home leading off of the main floor 'great room', making outdoor living comfortable in any weather.
Construction Specifics: All exterior walls are made with insulated concrete (“SIP” walls). In place of cement block 2” insulated panels with steel reinforcement are placed between solid 12” X 12” concrete piers. The paneling is then sprayed with 2” of concrete on both sides. The effect is significantly less heat transfer than standard cement block.
Interior walls are constructed using Honduran Pine, Insulation and finished drywall. Main floor was structurally engineered to US standards for tile and consists of 2” x 12” floor joists (blocked every four feet), ¾” Marine Ply, 5/8” Plywood and then 3mm Panilet to insure that the tile will NOT lift or shift.
All windows and glass doors are laminated safety glass with 3/16” and 1/8” glass with lamination in between. All opening windows are made from hardwood and use bronze hardware.
All cabinets, vanities and doors are custom built with hardwood (Rosetto) Main Floor Tile is a combination on Ceramic “Wood” tile on the interior and Porcelain non-slip on the exterior.
